Cook Time 7 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup  unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup  brown sugar
  • ¼  cup  granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons  milk
  • 1 teaspoon  vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon  salt
  • 1 cup  chocolate chips

Method

  1. Spread the flour evenly on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 5–7 minutes
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar
  3. Mix in the milk, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  4. Stir in the cooled, heat-treated flour until a dough.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Notes

  • Don’t skip heat-treating the flour. It only takes a few minutes and ensures your dough is safe to eat.
  • Use room-temperature butter. Soft butter blends better with the sugar for a smoother dough.
  • Adjust sweetness. If you like your dough less sweet, reduce the sugar slightly or balance it with a pinch more salt.
  • Chill if you like. The dough firms up nicely in the fridge, which makes it easier to scoop into bite-sized portions.
